Boarding
the Echo des Mers offers its passengers to explore
the world while respecting the environment through
conservation. The Echo des Mers is a small vessel
that can transport her guests in comfort and safety
to destinations inaccessible to most cruise vessels,
allowing intimate contact with the environment.
The crew and passengers can participate in various
conservation activities such as recording observations
for the scientific fundations.Refitted in 1997,
the Echo des Mers is equipped with life-boats
, rafts and life belts for each of the 44 passengers
and the 18 members of crew. It also has a zodiac
to facilitate landing on the islands. The Canadian cruise
crew is qualified according to the high standards
of the Canadian Coast Guard.Life on board is simple
and relaxed. No slot machines, no strong music.
Just the essential: nature in all its splendour,
the wind, the cry of the birds, the breath of
the seals and the whales and even... silence. In
the evening, after the excursions, the bilingual
naturalists (French and English), as well as special
guests, will answer questions and discuss with
passengers. The conference room, which is transformed
into a bar in the evening, is a great place to meet
and exchange with other passengers who share similar
interests. The reading room, filled with books
and videos is a quieter place. The regional cuisine
is refined and quite simply delicious, mainly
based on fresh local fish and seafood. Different
requests may be adressed to the crew that will
do all that is possible to satisfy them.Passengers
have a fair chance to meet whales and seabirds
everyday. They will be touched by the hospitality
of the inhabitants, enraptured by the fine regional
maritime cuisine and enchanted by the multitude
of birds and marine mammals. By exploring the
St Lawrence River and Gulf they have the opportunity
to open new horizons and other facets of the rich
and diverse nature of Quebec on a Canadian cruise.
